Matt Tubbs scored his 21st League Two goal of the season but a late Brad Halliday equaliser earned visitors York a 1-1 draw against Portsmouth.

Striker Tubbs buried into the bottom corner eight minutes from time but Halliday levelled three minutes later to share the points.

The frame of the goal was hit three times in the first period as both teams tried to put forgettable campaigns behind them.

It was York that came out stronger, as Keith Lowe hit the crossbar from an overhead kick in the fourth minute.

Portsmouth grew into the game after that and Jed Wallace, who looks set to have played his last game for Portsmouth, crashed a back-post volley off the inside of a post, before the frame also denied Tubbs.

Bobby Olejnik had to be at his stunning best to deny Wallace's 47th-minute effort, which looked set to nestle in the top corner, before the goalkeeper made two low saves to deny Conor Chaplin and Ben Close.

And the on loan Peterborough keeper saved his best until last when he got down quickly to block out Adam Webster's close-range effort.

He was finally beaten by Tubbs in the 82nd minute but Halliday earned the Minstermen a point when he latched onto a loose ball to sweep an effort into the bottom corner.
