Wolfsburg vs Hannover 96 preview - Frontzeck: No need for incentives

Hannover coach Michael Frontzeck says he has rejected a bonus payment for him and his players for avoiding relegation, insisting there should be no need for an extra incentive to stay up.

The Reds travel to local rivals Wolfsburg this Saturday still seeking a first win of 2015.

That run of poor form has seen them drop to the brink of the bottom three, and Frontzeck has been offered additional motivation to prevent them from falling through the Bundesliga's trapdoor in the final four games of the season.

"It's legitimate that the club tries everything they think's right, but I've never seen a player running any faster, jumping any higher or shooting better just because of a bonus," Frontzeck said at a press conference.

"I refuse to believe that that would make you play better football."

Instead, Frontzeck has warned he will take his team into a training camp on Sunday if they do not deliver the first three points of the year.

"Yes, that is an option," said the former Alemannia Aachen, Arminia Bielefeld and Borussia Monchengladbach coach, whose own contract only runs until the end of the month.

Beating the Wolves will be a tall order, though, with only five clubs succeeding this season.

They are not going to start to relax and focus on a DFB-Pokal final with Borussia Dortmund next month yet either, according to their coach Dieter Hecking, who used to be Hannover's longest-serving coach until Mirko Slomka overtook him last year.

"Our biggest objective is direct qualification for the Champions League and we still need a few more wins for that," Hecking said.

"Our win in the semi-finals of the cup is going to give my team an additional boost. Saturday's game is important and we've got to carry on winning if we want to reach our goal.

"My team can deal with this and they are fully focused on Hannover."
