The striker was looking for a new club, Manchester United were looking for a buyer for a player that Van Gaal has absolutely no interest in, and Real Madrid were counting down the days to his Premiership return. Now the panorama is completely different, and all because of his four decisive goals in his last five appearances.

His chances of remaining at Real Madrid were zero a week ago, but his goals and his performances on the pitch have led the 'Los Blancos' executives to ask for more time so that they do not have to make a firm decision by Thursday, as set out in his loan contract signed on 31st August.

The purchase option expires on Thursday, and the Bernabeu execs are looking to extend the deadline and negotiate a new price.
