Sampdoria vs Cesena preview - Mihajlovic won't be rushed

Sampdoria fans will have to wait until the end of the season to find out if Sinisa Mihajlovic will remain in charge of the club.

The Blucerchiati host relegation-threatened Cesena on Saturday amidst speculation that their coach is going to leave this summer for AC Milan or Napoli.

Mihajlovic has one year left in his contract and he told the Italian press: "I haven't made a decision yet. I can't take people for a ride.

"The first issue is the project and everything that could happen at Sampdoria or anywhere.

"When I do decide, I will say it out loud.

"I don't even want to think about it right now, as I'm too smart to get distracted by these rumours and I am sure my players will react the same way."

Mihajlovic, who played four years at Sampdoria, returned to guide the club in 2013 and led them to a 12th-place finish in the 2013-14 campaign.

Samp have punched above their weight this season and are seventh in the standings, level on 49 points with sixth-placed Fiorentina.

They are eight points adrift of Roma, who hold the last Champions League qualifying spot with eight games remaining.

"I came to Sampdoria out of a sense of love and gratitude," the 46-year-old said. "We are having a great season and if we go into Europe my debt will be paid.

"If we don't, then we'll see.

"We have to focus now, it's no good running hundreds of metres if they overtake you on the final straight."

Samp, unbeaten at home this season, drew 1-1 at AC Milan last time out having previously fallen 2-0 at Fiorentina.

Cesena travel to the Luigi Ferraris stadium looking for only their second win on the road.

The Emilia-Romagna outfit are without a win since March 1 and have collected three points since.

Last weekend's 1-0 defeat to Chievo left Cesena in 18th place, seven points adrift of safety.

Coach Domenico Di Carlo said: "There are still eight games remaining and we have to believe it's possible to avoid the drop."

The visitors will be without Colombian midfielder Carlos Carbonero, who is suspended.
