Scunthorpe United 1 - 1 Port Vale: Wootton saves vital point for Iron

A dramatic injury-time header from teenage substitute Kyle Wootton salvaged Scunthorpe a point in a 1-1 draw in a dour relegation battle with Port Vale.

Wootton pounced at the far post with his first ever goal in senior football, converting a cross from fellow sub Hakeeb Adelakun.

It proved a real heartbreaker for Vale who looked set for their first win in eight games.

Centre-back Richard Duffy fired them in front in the 43rd minute after a corner had been headed down in the box by fellow defender Neil Collins.

Struggling Scunthorpe wasted a glorious chance to get back on level terms in the 61st minute. When a shot from Theo Robinson came back off a post, 17-goal leading scorer Paddy Madden ballooned the ball over the crossbar from point-blank range.

That looked like being so costly until Wootton came up with his last-gasp equaliser.

But the result leaves both teams still looking anxiously over their shoulders at the relegation zone below.
