Real Sociedad vs Deportivo La Coruna preview - Bergantinos: New coach will lift us

Deportivo La Coruna midfielder Alex Bergantinos believes his team will be lifted by the arrival of new coach Victor Sanchez del Amo when they travel to Real Sociedad on Sunday.

Sanchez del Amo succeeded Victor Fernandez on Thursday, with the former Real Zaragoza boss ousted hours after Depor's 1-1 draw at home to bottom side Cordoba, leaving them just a point above the relegation zone.

"Every time you change coach you always get a boost, and if we can capitalise on that by winning then we'll really start to believe in ourselves again," Bergantinos told a press conference.

"We hope we can rise to the challenge and put in a good performance, and now the players that haven't been getting in the team will be rejuvenated and everyone starts from zero, ready to earn their place in the team."

Former right winger Sanchez del Amo spent seven years at Deportivo as a player, winning the Primera Division in 2000 and the Copa del Rey in 2002, and is set for his first role as head coach following stints as an assistant to former Real Madrid midfielder Michel at Getafe, Sevilla and most recently Olympiacos.

Despite his relative inexperience, Bergantinos insists he has been impressed with the new boss in his first couple of training sessions, saying: "He has come here with a lot of enthusiasm, lots of new ideas he wants us to take on, and lots of hope.

"The club needs a change in direction from the bottom to top because there was too much pessimism in the area, on the inside and on the outside."

Sanchez del Amo will be without full-back Luisinho in his first match as the defender is suspended following his sending-off against Cordoba, and Helder Postiga, Ivan Cavaleiro, Cezary Wilk and Diogo Salomao are still injured.

Real Sociedad boss David Moyes said forwards Carlos Vela, Alfred Finbogasson and defender Alberto de La Bella were all doubtful for the match against Depor, who were his side's opponents in his first match in charge of the Basque side back in November, which ended in a 0-0 draw.

The former Manchester United and Everton manager also insisted his side would not give up the fight to catch Malaga in seventh place, despite losing 2-0 to Atletico Madrid last week.
