Getafe vs Villarreal preview - Asenjo demands more

Villarreal goalkeeper Sergio Asenjo fiercely criticised his team's attitude following their surprise defeat at home to Espanyol on Thursday, and urged them to produce a better display at Getafe on Sunday.

The 3-0 reverse to Sergio Gonzalez's side was Villarreal's heaviest defeat of the season, capping a rotten run of form which reads four defeats and two draws in their last six outings.

"None of us gave 100 percent and so it was always going to be difficult, we barely had any shots on goals and that's very odd for a team like ours," Asenjo told a press conference.

"All we can do is react, we need to make a lot of changes but the good thing is that we're playing again so soon."

While Villarreal's season has unravelled in the last month, exiting the Copa del Rey, the Europa League and slipping out of the race for the fourth Champions League spot, Getafe have hit form, recording back-to-back wins over Deportivo La Coruna and Elche to move 10 points above the relegation zone and up to 13th in the table.

Asenjo is grateful his side have the opportunity to make amends for their debacle against Espanyol so soon, but warned that Pablo Franco's side would be no pushovers.

He added: "We're lucky to be playing Getafe on Sunday and this is a good opportunity for us. But they will make things difficult for us because there is a lot of stake for them and it won't be at all easy."

Villarreal will be boosted by the return of winger Denis Cheryshev from a muscle problem, but captain Bruno Soriano remains injured. Getafe meanwhile are still without forwards Angel Lafita and Karim Yoda and defender Juan Valera, and Sergio Escudero misses the match through suspension, with Roberto Lago expected to stand in at left-back in his place.

Although Getafe still have some way to go until they will have secured survival mathematically, forward Fredy Hinestroza admitted the Madrid side are confident they are well on the way to achieving their objective.

"We still haven't done it, but we think we'll be there in one or two matches' time," the Colombian told the club's official website.

"However, we're not only thinking about that, we also want to keep on picking up points and get the most amount of points in what remains in the tournament."
