Deportivo have issued a statement confirming that the club has sacked coach, Victor Fernandez, who had already said goodbye to both players and journalists. The club president let him know the club's decision after the game against Cordoba in a statement that read: "Deportivo's board of directors has informed Victor Fernández that his services are no longer required and as of tonight he is no longer first-team coach".
Victor Fernandez had already said his farewells at a press conference in which he said he had coached his "last game" as Deportivo boss and was waiting for official confirmation of his sacking, which followed soon afterwards. The manager received a call from the club on Monday informing him that he would be sacked if he did not beat Córdoba. When the game ended in a draw, he said goodbye to his players in the dressing room before doing the same with journalists in the press room.
The Spanish coach took over at Deportivo during the summer after Fernando Vazquez's sudden pre-season sacking. Victor Fernandez coached Deportivo in their first 30 La Liga games of the season with a record of six wins, nine draws and fifteen defeats.
