Wenger: Arsenal relying on slip-ups

Arsene Wenger admits Arsenal need Chelsea to slip up to allow his side into this season's Premier League title race.

The Gunners briefly closed the gap to the league leaders to four points with a superb 4-1 win over Liverpool on Saturday lunchtime, but the margin was restored to seven when the Blues beat Stoke City 2-1 in the evening fixture.

With a month of the season left, Chelsea remain favourites to secure the silverware but Arsenal's seven-game winning streak has at least made things interesting at the top.

"We look up but we look even more game by game," said Wenger.

"We need 100 per cent results, and the only way to get that is to focus on the next one with everyone together. We need other teams to have a weakness.

"Today was a great day. It was a very important game."

Arsenal are in the midst of a glittering run of form and their confidence was in clear evidence in the demolition of the Reds, secured through three goals in eight first-half minutes from Hector Bellerin, Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez with Olivier Giroud providing a fourth in stoppage time.

Jordan Henderson's penalty was the only blot on the Gunners' copybook and Wenger was understandably delighted with the way his side performed.

"You always have imperfections in any game but I feel we started with a great intensity, which is what we wanted to put them under pressure," he said.

"We created some early chances after that and then when we relieved the pressure they had one or two chances. Liverpool are a good side going forwards and they always look dangerous.

"We had a killing instinct and took advantage of our strong moments in the first half.In fairness we played at a good pace and had some good combination game in the final third.
"The second half was more down to 'can we maintain the discipline, intensity and not allow them to come back early'? We did that.

"We had many chances on the break that I've seen again but in the end it was 4-1 which is very convincing in a very important game."
