Stranraer 1 - 0 Ayr Utd.: Malcolm strike sinks Ayr

Posted Sunday, April 05, 2015 by PA

Craig Malcolm's second-half strike maintained Stranraer's lead at the top of League One with a 1-0 win over Ayr.

Going into the game on the back of three consecutive victories, Stranraer looked the more likely to break the deadlock but were frustrated by goalkeeper David Hutton.

Chris Aitken and Willie Gibson saw their efforts kept out by Hutton, while David Mitchell also produced a brace of saves to keep out the visiting attack.

The Blues' pressure mounted in the second half, with Aitken striking against a post from outside the area before Malcolm lobbed the ball over Hutton into an empty goal.

Ayr mounted serious pressure in the dying moments and Mitchell was again forced into action, pulling off a couple of saves to prevent Jordan Preston pulling the scores level.
