MARTIN SKRTEL has been charged with violent conduct by the FA.

The Reds defender stood on Manchester United keeper David De Gea’s shin late on in their clash on Sunday at Anfield.

The game also saw Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard sent off just 38 seconds after coming off the bench for stamping on United midfielder Ander Herrera.

The Reds have until tomorrow at 6pm to respond to Skrtel’s charge and it is not clear if they will accept or challenge the FA’s decision.

Skrtel, 30, was sent up front by Kop boss Brendan Rodgers as the Reds chased down United’s 2-1 lead.

The Slovak defender followed in on a loose ball, but stood on De Gea’s leg as the Spanish stopper grasped possession.

Skrtel was livid with the Spanish stopper at the time of the incident as he went to the floor clutching his leg.

De Gea got back up and fired back verbally in an unsavoury incident right before the final whistle.

IN TROUBLE: Martin Skrtel has been charged with violent conduct

The FA deemed Skrtel’s actions in breach of Rule E3 surrounding violent conduct after reviewing the video as referee Martin Atkinson did not have a clear view of the incident.

Although it is unclear what path Liverpool will take, after the game Rodgers denied his man had any intent to harm De Gea.

The Reds will fear they could lose Skrtel for three games now if the FA hits the defender with the same ban Diego Costa received.

The Chelsea striker was found guilty of stamping on Liverpool’s Emre Can during their Capital One Cup semi-final second leg back in January.

The Blues appealed that charged, but the Spain forward was punished which left boss Jose Mourinho furious.
