Roy Hodgson: England boss has drafted in three players

England manager Roy Hodgson has added Rob Green, Danny Rose and Jack Butland to his squad for the upcoming matches against Lithuania and Italy.

Southampton goalkeeper Fraser Forster and Manchester United defender Luke Shaw have both withdrawn from the England party because of injuries.

Former Celtic stopper Forster suffered a knee injury in the early stages of Southampton’s 2-0 victory over Burnley at St Mary’s on Saturday.

Shaw has been struggling with his fitness and is not expected to start in the Premier League match against Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday.

The Football Association confirmed the news regarding the trio, as Hodgson prepares for the European qualifier against Lithuania at Wembley on Friday.

Queens Park Rangers stopper Rob Green comes in and Birmingham keeper Butland has moved up to the senior squad from the U21s.

Tottenham left-back Rose is included as a replacement for Shaw and may play some part in the Friendly against Italy a week on Tuesday.

Green has been capped 12 times at full-international level but has only featured once for England since he lost a soft goal during a 1-1 draw against the United States at the 2010 World Cup.

He made his debut for the national side against Colombia in 2005, but missed out on the 2006 World Cup in Germany after sustaining a groin injury for the England B team against Belarus a month before the tournament began.

Green has kept five clean sheets in 28 appearances for QPR this season as the west London side battles to maintain Premier League status.
