Posted Sunday, March 22, 2015 by PA

Mark Durnan scored within a minute of stepping off the bench as Queen of the South beat Cowdenbeath 4-1.

Queens broke the deadlock after 27 minutes when Iain Russell headed Mark Millar's deep cross in at the back post.

The hosts doubled their lead in the 51st minute when Michael Paton swept the ball past Cowdenbeath goalkeeper Robbie Thomson after impressive work by Russell in the build-up.

Cowden pulled one back nine minutes later when Sean Higgins broke forward before slotting the ball past Alexander Clark from close range, but Queen of the South had their two-goal advantage back in the 75th minute when substitute Durnan fired in.

Derek Lyle made it 4-1 in the 89th minute when he rifled in from the right side of the box.
