Accrington Stanley 2 - 2 York City : Windass breaks York hearts

Posted Sunday, March 22, 2015 by PA

Josh Windass broke York's hearts with a late equaliser in the 2-2 draw at Accrington.

York thought they were on course for a vital three points in their battle against the drop after top scorer Jake Hyde fired home John McCombe's pass from close range 14 minutes from time.

However Windass blasted home an 89th minute 20-yard free-kick to rescue a point for his mid-table side.

City were the better team in the first half with Spurs loanee Shaq Coulthirst the liveliest player on the pitch but neither goalkeeper was seriously tested.

The game then burst into life in a six minute spell after the break when, in the 63rd minute, York broke quickly and Luke Summerfield's 20-yard strike took a deflection and found the bottom of the net.

However Stanley came back and in the 69th minute West Ham loanee Sean Maguire pounced on a loose ball in the area and belted home from 12 yards.

Then came Hyde's tap in to the delight of the travelling 500 York fans before Windass spoilt their day.
