Gillingham vs Colchester United preview - Martin misses out for Gills

Gillingham will be without Joe Martin for the visit of Colchester.

The left-back limped out of Tuesday's 3-0 defeat to Chesterfield with a hamstring problem that boss Justin Edinburgh says will rule him out for at least two weeks, forcing the former Newport boss into at least one change to his line-up.

Edinburgh, who says a new signing is 'a possibility' was able to call on Jake Hessenthaler after illness in that match and handed 35 minutes to winger Jermaine McGlashan from the bench and he may have done enough to earn a start.

Josh Pritchard missed out again in midweek and he will be closely monitored by the Gills' medical team.

Colchester trio Sammie Szmodics, Rhys Healey and Tom Lapslie are all hoping to recover from injury and return to contention.

Midfielder Szmodics missed the midweek win against Yeovil due to concussion, on-loan Cardiff striker Healey sustained a shin injury on Tuesday night and teenager Lapslie has missed the last five games due to an ankle problem.

All three players will be assessed by boss Tony Humes, who is expected to hand another start to on-loan Tottenham defender Bongani Khumalo, who made an impressive debut versus Yeovil.

Jacob Murphy, on loan from Norwich, will continue on the wing after catching the eye in his first two games for the club.
