Wycombe Wanderers 2 : 2 Accrington Stanley - Mawson denies Stanley

Alfie Mawson's deflected goal saved a point for Wycombe as their push for promotion took a slight knock after a 2-2 draw against Accrington.

The Chairboys had the chance to go top of League Two for at least 24 hours with victory but despite dominating the match they dropped to third, four points clear of fourth-placed Bury.

Wycombe took a deserved lead after half an hour when Sam Saunders' cross was knocked down by Paul Hayes at the back post and Sam Wood's header found the bottom corner.

Against the run of play, Accrington equalised right on half-time as Piero Mingoia turned the ball across goal and Terry Gornell could not miss from close range.

Stanley then stunned the home crowd on the hour mark with Mingoia thundering a first-time shot from the edge of the box into the top corner.

The Chairboys were able to pull themselves level, however, when Saunders' free-kick was cleared as far as Mawson, whose shot took a huge deflection on its way in.
