Cambridge United 1 : 2 Tranmere Rovers - Rovers return to winning ways
Posted Wednesday, March 18, 2015 by PA
Tranmere ended their run of five successive defeats with a 2-1 win at Cambridge despite finishing with 10 men.
Max Power gave Micky Adams' side the lead in first-half stoppage time, firing home from the edge of the box after Ryan Donaldson could only partially clear Jennison Myrie-Williams' cross into his path.
Sullay Kaikai equalised for the U's in the 63rd minute, eight minutes after coming on as a substitute, firing low past Owain Fon-Williams at the end of a jinking run through the Rovers defence.
But Tranmere retook the lead five minutes later, Danny Gardner beating Chris Dunn after Myrie-Williams escaped from Richard Tait on the left and pulled the ball back.
Fon Williams was called upon to preserve his side's lead and made a good save from Tom Elliott.
Visiting captain Steve Jennings was shown a second yellow card for kicking the ball away 11 minutes from time.
