Cordoba sack Djukic

Djukic, who had previously managed Valencia, was appointed last October to replace Albert Ferrer, but the Andalusian club have struggled to get themselves out of trouble.

Cordoba are currently propping up the Primera Division table, with eight straight defeats, and Sunday's 2-0 reverse against Malaga proved a tipping point for Djukic.

A Cordoba statement on Monday confirmed Djukic was relieved of his duties, with Jose Antonio Romero taking charge of training in the interim.

"Cordoba CF thanks Miroslav Djukic for the work, effort and dedication he has put into the development of his duties during his time at the (club) while it wishes him luck in his future career," the statement added.

Former Deportivo La Coruna defender and Serbia national coach Djukic had a spell managing Valencia before taking over at Cordoba.

Following Sunday's defeat, Djukic had appeared in defiant mode, telling a press conference: "The team has given everything and has lost to a great team. The group has fought, and had their chances, but we have not taken advantage.

"We are in a difficult situation, but we will fight and fight until the end."
