Xavi Hernandez continues to set records and astonish football fans the world over. He added yet another achievement in Eibar, making his 750th appearance for Barcelona.
The level of his game during his 17 years in the Spanish top-flight and in his 133 international caps inspires admiration and respect from his teammates and opponents alike. The fans at Ipurua were only too happy to recognise the Spaniard's accomplishment and joined in the thunderous ovation when he stepped out onto the turf.
He did not start the game, but made his entrance in the 62nd minute. Even though he was only out on the field for half an hour, he put in an outstanding performance and could have scored off a pass by Luis Suarez. That really would have topped off a legendary evening when he played his 750th game in a Barcelona shirt. At the age of 35, Xavi has broken record after record.
Even though he has taken on a less prominent role this season, against Eibar he proved that he is still one of Barcelona's top-class players. His days at the club are numbered, with his exit set to take place in June, but he will be hoping for one last glorious season before he leaves.
