Ayr Utd. 0 - 0 Stenhousemuir: Bar foils Honest Men
Posted Sunday, March 15, 2015 by PA
The woodwork denied Ayr a chance to move out of the relegation place in Scottish League One as they had to settle for a goalless draw at home to fellow strugglers Stenhousemuir.
Craig Beattie rattled the crossbar in the 19th minute before Brian Gilmour's effort also hit the frame of the goal with nine minutes remaining.
Ayr enjoyed the better of a quiet first half and after Beattie was denied by the woodwork, an excellent effort from Jon-Paul McGovern had Stenhousemuir goalkeeper Greg Fleming scrambling.
Fleming also had to be alert to deny Beattie and Robert Crawford as Ayr made a strong start to the second half.
Colin McMenamin shot wide for the visitors early in the second half and Lee Gallacher fired a late chance over with Gilmour striking the crossbar in between.
The draw leaves Ayr in ninth, a point behind their opponents who drew away for the first time this season.
