SC Paderborn 07 vs Bayer Leverkusen preview - Leverkusen look to continue revival

Bayer Leverkusen will be looking to continue their recent revival when they travel to relegation-threatened Paderborn this Sunday.

Following a disappointing start to 2015, Roger Schmidt's men have now won their last three games in all competitions, moving back up to fourth in the Bundesliga, into the quarter-finals of the DFB-Pokal and into a good position to reach the same stage of the Champions League as a result.

Their trip to East Westphalia could therefore crown an excellent 10 days and give them a much more positive outlook than they had coming into March.

"We've had a successful week and we can really emphasise it by winning again on Sunday, away from home," Schmidt said at a press conference.

Paderborn slipped into the bottom three for the first time last weekend after going down 2-0 at Borussia Monchengladbach but Schmidt is not about to underestimate them.

"They are not in a position which reflects the way they have played this season," the former Salzburg coach said.

"The Bundesliga has been full of tight games this season which have gone one way or another in the final minutes and Paderborn have often been misfortunate with this, like in their last game against Gladbach, for example.

"That may have been quite a clear defeat, but I think it could have been a completely different outcome.

"Paderborn are extremely well organised. They've been very stable tactically throughout the whole season and also look very strong psychologically. There's no other way to explain their decent first season in the Bundesliga."

Paderborn have had fearless approach to matches, even though as their coach Andre Breitenreiter never gets tired of repeating, they have been the underdogs in every game.

They will accept that role again this weekend and hope to fare better than in recent weeks.

"We've had a good week in training and managed to clear our minds and now we're ready to go into this game with our usual joy," Breitenreiter said.
