Accrington Stanley 1 : 1 Portsmouth - Stanley hold on for point

Accrington held on for a 1-1 draw with Portsmouth despite playing for 37 minutes with 10 men.

Stanley striker Josh Windass opening the scoring with a 25-yard free-kick after 16 minutes for his third in four games.

Portsmouth came straight back and Terry Gornell cleared a Danny Hollands effort off the line before, from the resulting corner, a punch by keeper Scott Davies fell straight to Ryan Taylor who headed home the 20th-minute equaliser.

Stanley could have gone ahead through Kal Naismith, Andy Procter, Rob Atkinson and Windass but wayward shooting and Pompey keeper Paul Jones denied them.

And Dan Butler almost gave Pompey the lead four minutes before the break, smashing the crossbar with a stunning free-kick.

The game turned in Portsmouth's favour in the 53rd minute after the grounded Anthony Barry was judged to have lunged at Hollands as both challenged for the ball and the Stanley midfielder was shown a straight red by referee Rob Lewis.

Pompey went for the winner but Jed Wallace, Matt Tubbs and Wes Fogden all wasted chances.
