Bruno Andrade gave Stevenage's top seven hopes a huge boost as his late winner in a scrappy contest clinched a 1-0 win against fellow play-off chasers Plymouth.

Stevenage are now level with the Pilgrims and just a point off the top seven after Andrade's 89th-minute goal gave them their third win in four games.

Plymouth came within a whisker of opening the scoring after 17 minutes when Bobby Reid volleyed Drew Talbot's cross against the crossbar from inside the penalty area.

Towards the end of the first half Stevenage created a couple of openings with Dean Parrett shooting wide before Chris Whelpdale's deflected effort was kept out by Plymouth goalkeeper Luke McCormick.

Substitute Jason Banton then sent a shot bobbling wide on the poor surface for the Pilgrims before the same player forced Stevenage goalkeeper Chris Day into a good save low to his right.

Andrade then snatched victory almost at the death when Tom Pett's brilliant pass on the counter-attack put the Portuguese midfielder through and he kept his composure to score.
