Schalke are reportedly discussing a potential move for Real Madrid's Sami Khedira.
The German midfielder's contract with Los Blancos ends in the summer, and Schalke coach Roberto Di Matteo told local media: "Khedira? We all know he's a great player. If he wants to come, the door is open. He's a world-class player."
This week, Khedira's name has been bandied about in the German press, with Schalke the leading suitors.
But sporting executive Horst Heldt said: "I've read that we're interested in Sami, but I never play the speculation game.
"There are many interesting players available in the market."
Khedira turns 28 on April 4 and everything points to this season, his fifth at the Bernabeu, being his last there.
He has played a bit-part role in Carlo Ancelotti's side this season and is currently sidelined after picking up a muscle injury in the Madrid derby.
