Guingamp vs Montpellier preview - Guingamp not getting carried away

Jocelyn Gourvennec is not about to make any bold predictions about how far his Guingamp side can go this season.

The Breton club - who had looked set for a relegation scrap as they propped up Ligue 1 at the end of November - continued their remarkable turnaround in fortunes with a 2-1 victory over Dynamo Kiev in their Europa League round of 32 first leg tie on Thursday night.

On Sunday, Montpellier will come to the Stade Municipal du Roudourou to face a team revitalised following six wins in an unbeaten run of seven matches in all competitions which has seen Guingamp climb to eighth place in Ligue 1.

Gourvennec's men are now within six points of the European qualification spots, but there will be no complacency from the Coupe de France holders, who are through to the quarter-finals next month.

"We are very pleased to have 35 points. There are no plans, no specific goals set. We move forward and have good momentum," said Gourvennec.

"I do not want to project what position we will finish in or how many points we will gain."

The Guingamp coach, whose side were on the back of a 7-2 home defeat by Nice earlier in the campaign, added: "We are very happy because this form has come a little bit out of nowhere."

Guingamp captain Lionel Mathis feels a collective work ethic has been key to their revival.

He said: "Everyone is committed, that's our job.

"We have a technical staff that asks a lot of us, and we - the players - are very demanding of each other.

"There are some great games coming up. Everyone is giving their all and wants to be part of the squad."

Montpellier head into Week 26 a point ahead of Guingamp in seventh place, having seen their match against Monaco postponed because of torrential rain.

Rolland Courbis' side had lost just one of their last 10 league games before defeat at home to Lille on February 2.

"Guingamp are in a good rhythm of games with good results, which we will have to disturb," Courbis said.

Midfielder Jamel Saihi is not fit, but is expected to be back for the home game against Nice.
