Portsmouth won away in League Two for only the second time this season, thumping out-of-form Cambridge 6-2.

Jed Wallace gave Pompey the lead within two minutes, bursting through and burying a finish beyond goalkeeper Chris Dunn.

Debutant Nathaniel Mendez-Laing equalised against the run of play after 22 minutes with an angled finish, but Matt Tubbs restored the visitor's lead two minutes later with another thumping effort.

Paul Robinson made it 3-1 just past the half -hour mark after Dunn could not hold Wallace's long-range effort, and it was 4-1 before half-time when Wallace's brilliant cross from the left was nodded in by Tubbs.

Robbie Simpson reduced the deficit early in the second half, meeting Greg Taylor's cross with a flying header.

Ryan Taylor netted a fifth after 74 minutes when he prodded home from close range after Richard Tait failed to deal with a Wallace centre, and Tubbs completed his hat-trick from close range following Taylor's cross nine minutes from time.

Portsmouth had previously scored just six goals in 15 away league games this season.
