Lens travel to Caen still reeling after on-loan defender Dimitri Cavare was ruled out for the season.
The 20-year-old Rennes right back now looks to have played his last game for Lens with him due to return to his parent club in the summer.
Coach Antoine Kombouare announced the blow in his press conference ahead of the weekend match against Caen.
Cavare, a Lens youth product, was sold to Rennes on February 2 but was seeing out the season with Lens on loan.
"His season is over," Kombouare said of the 20-year-old right-back. "He has an appointment with the Rennes doctor tomorrow to plan an operation.
"Regarding his future recovery, there will be a decision to be made in consultation with him, Rennes and us. We will follow closely the decisions taken by the Rennes doctors.
"This is a big blow for him and for us."
Caen boss Patrice Garande's main concern will be a defensive reshuffle after Alaeddine Yahia was ruled out with a knee injury.
Felipe Saad and Damien Da Silva will now partner up in the centre of Caen's defence and Garande has full confidence in their abilities.
"This pair is very complementary, I have no doubt or particular fear," he told his pre-match press conference.
