Sevilla vs Monchengladbach preview - Sevilla looking for home comforts

Sevilla will need their home support behind them if they are to overcome numerous injury problems and keep their Europa League title defence on track against Borussia Monchengladbach.

The Primera Division club will be without five injured players, including goalkeeper Beto.

"We have important players absent and we will have to make do with those that are available," Sevilla coach Unai Emery told the Spanish press.

"However, I don't want that to be an excuse."

Playing at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan will be a huge advantage for Sevilla, who have won their last five European home games.

Sevilla bounced back from La Liga defeats at Real Madrid and Getafe with a 3-0 home triumph over Cordoba on Saturday - a win that kept the Andalusians in fifth place.

"The fact that we have not lost at home for a long time (since March 2014), is mostly due to our fans," Sevilla winger Vitolo told his club's official website.

"When we get out on the pitch and we hear them singing, it's incredible."

Thursday's match will be Sevilla's 100th in European competition and the three-time UEFA Cup winners, who have yet to lose at home to German opposition, will be hoping to mark the occasion with a victory.

"It's going to be a complicated game," Vitolo said. "They're a very difficult opponent to face but we want to claim a good result ahead of the return leg in Germany (on February 26)."

Monchengladbach also know what it is like to win the competition having lifted the UEFA Cup twice in their history.

They make the trip to Seville looking for their first win on Spanish soil since 1974 - the year Gladbach first lifted the European trophy.

The Foals are currently in fine fettle.

They are third in the Bundelisga and beat Koln 1-0 on Saturday, with b Granit Xhaka's last-gasp winner clinching their third win in four league games.

Gladbach coach Lucien Favre b is hoping midfielder Andre Hahn recovers from a foot problem while Sevilla's Sergio Rico will replace Beto in between the posts.
