Ex-Chelsea man David Luiz hoping to use experience to beat old side in Champions League

David Luiz will dip into his memory bank in an attempt to overcome his old team-mates on Tuesday.

The Brazilian knows what it is like to win the Champions League with Chelsea in 2012.

Now as a PSG player he will use that knowledge to try to bring down Chelsea in the first leg of their knockout-stage tie.

"If we concentrate we can do it," he said.

Luiz, 27, with his trademark locks, was Chelsea's Marmite man.

Capable of thunderous long-range strikes and thrilling ball-carrying surges out of defence, he also fell foul of the likes of former Manchester United player, TV pundit and now England No.2 Gary Neville, who likened him to "being controlled by a 10-year-old on a PlayStation."

Luiz says Champions League glory is something the very best players in Europe dream about.

OLD BOY: David Luiz says his new side must concentrate if they are to beat Chelsea

He said: "You breathe it every day. You imagine a final and lifting the trophy."

"You put all that into practice. The daily dedication every second of your training and in matches during a year. You give up many things for that goal."

Chelsea's roller-coaster ride to victory in 2012 has shaped Luiz's thinking about the game.

The Blues misfit left in a £50million transfer to PSG – a world record for a defender – but was still perceived as a failure during his time at Stamford Bridge.

He said: "Today I'm part of a team that has a lot of possession."

"We love to control the match but we've already learned that in the future we will face opponents that will have more possession than us and we will have to adapt."

"You never face opponents with the same game plan, with the same quality, so you need to be able to adapt a lot."

Being drawn in the last 16 against the team with which he won the competition does not faze him.

He said: "As long as it's positive for everyone, I think it's very important to show your personality on the pitch."

"I try to be a role model, especially for the kids that like us not only for our football but also for what we do off the pitch."
