Stirling Albion 1 - 4 Ayr Utd. - Ayr scoop impressive away win

Posted Sunday, February 15, 2015 by PA

Ayr secured their first win in 12 league games as they won 4-1 away at Stirling to move nine points clear of the bottom side.

The visitors were unlucky not to go ahead when David Robertson's header cannoned back off the crossbar.

Robertson would not be denied much longer as he fired in from close range after Stirling failed to clear their lines.

Gordon Smith then headed Adam Blakeman's corner into his own net to double the visitors' advantage inside the opening 15 minutes.

Lewis Coult missed the opportunity to reduce the deficit when his right-footed effort hit a post with only the goalkeeper to beat.

Phillip Johnston did give the home side a lifeline shortly after the break however, beating goalkeeper David Hutton at his near post.

But Craig Beattie's header and Jordan Preston's neat finish ensured any hopes of a comeback were dashed.
