Exeter City 2 : 2 Cambridge United - Grecians fight back to hold U's

Exeter staged a superb second half comeback to earn a 2-2 draw at home to Cambridge.

Cambridge always looked the more likely to score in the opening 45 minutes although it was a half of little quality.

Exeter felt Cambridge should have been reduced to ten men when Tom Nichols was brought down by Josh Coulson when through on goal, but the referee only booked him.

Cambridge then made Exeter pay with the opening goal in the 39th minute. Jordan Slew fed Robbie Simpson, who turned from 15 yards and slipped a low shot into the far corner.

The U's doubled their lead in the 50th minute when Craig Woodman turned a Simpson cross into his own net, but Nichols got Exeter back into the game with a crisp finish after good work by David Wheeler and Clinton Morrison.

However, Exeter got the point they deserved in the 89th minute when Wheeler got in front of Chris Dunn to head in from Alex Nicholls' cross.

Wheeler almost won it in stoppage time, but his header from Liam Sercombe's corner drifted wide.
