Freiburg v Borussia Dortmund

Borussia Dortmund coach Jurgen Klopp has reaffirmed his belief that his side will avoid relegation this season.

A 1-0 defeat at home to Augsburg in midweek - already Dortmund's 11th loss of the season, just two short of the amount of times they lost in the past two seasons combined - saw the Westphalians fall to a new low.

They are looking up at the rest of the table going into their trip to fellow strugglers Freiburg, but Klopp's confidence has not been knocked as he refused to throw in the towel.

"I am utterly convinced we will stay up," Klopp told reporters at a press conference on Thursday.

"How would things be if I were to throw everything away after just one game?

"We are physically in a much better condition than in the first half of the season and we have got to use this fact."

Klopp added that he is tired of seeing positives from his side in training but almost exclusively negatives in their matches, admitting they "must not be blind" to the truth - which is that they are bottom of the table.

That is a position their hosts Freiburg are arguably more used to, having faced battles for survival in many of their seasons in Germany's top flight.

That could therefore give them a slight advantage against a side to whom all of this is new, and their coach Christian Streich is also convinced his side can stay up.

"I'm still pleased with the way the lads are dealing with the pressure," Streich said after his side's defeat to Borussia Monchengladbach.

"That gives me hope for the future. I'm just scared that we get problems with injuries like with (Admir) Mehmedi in the first half of the season.

"If that happens, then it would be catastrophic for us. If not, then I think we've got a realistic chance of being able to play in Monchengladbach again next season."

Mehmedi has been ruled out for the next four weeks and Streich will be keeping his fingers crossed the Swiss striker will return when expected to help his side out, although Nils Petersen's hat-trick on his debut will give Freiburg some hope that they can cover for Mehmedi.
