Brendan Rodgers left Steven Gerrard out the squad for the win over West Ham as he had a tight hamstring.
BOXING CLEVER: Steven Gerrard watched the West Ham game from his box
The Reds skipper revealed on Instagram yesterday that he was set to wear a pair of boots with '700' stitched in to them to mark his 700th appearance.
But Liverpool's third all-time appearance-maker - behind Ian Callaghan and Jamie Carragher - had to sit and watch from his private box.
Gerrard picked up the problem after playing 120 minutes in the Capital One Cup semi-final defeat to Chelsea on Tuesday.
Rodgers said: "After the game the other night, his [Gerrard's] hamstring was tight."
"We've got a lot of games over the coming months, so we didn't want to risk it when we have other players that are fresh."
Gerrard has made 495 appearances in the Premier League, 40 in the FA Cup, 30 in the League Cup, 130 in Europe and four elsewhere.
