Oldham Athletic AFC 3 - 0 Notts County - Home comforts at last for Latics

Oldham secured their first home victory since November with an emphatic 3-0 win against Notts County.

The Latics moved closer into play-off contention after carving out numerous chances against a shaky visiting defence.

Notts winger Will Hayhurst saw a free-kick tipped over the crossbar but Oldham went in front on the half-hour when Mike Jones delivered a pin-point left-wing cross and big defender George Elokobi glanced in a six-yard header.

Two minutes later the lead was doubled as Amari Morgan-Smith raced behind the Notts defence and coolly slotted in from 14 yards.

The visitors almost pulled one back in first-half stoppage time when Garry Thompson forced a good save from home goalkeeper Jake Kean.

Oldham's Jonathan Forte hit the crossbar and 37-year-old Roy Carroll kept County in the game with a series of outstanding saves from Dominic Poleon, Carl Winchester and Danny Philliskirk.

Carroll was exposed again in the 73rd minute when Connor Brown crossed from the left and Latics top scorer Forte headed in his 14th goal of the season.

Shaun Derry's team have now managed only one win in their last 10 games.
