Stevenage Borough 0 - 2 Oxford United - Mullins inspires U's win

John Mullins' maiden goal of the season sent Oxford on their way to a first win in five games as they beat Stevenage 2-0 at Broadhall Way.

After a goalless first half, Mullins headed a 59th-minute Michael Collins free-kick into the top corner for the U's opener and his first of the season.

Callum O'Dowda then doubled the lead eight minutes later with a simple tap in after Chris Day produced a fine save to deny Pat Hoban from close range, ending Stevenage's eight-game unbeaten run in front of their own fans.

Boro's youth team captain Ben Kennedy, who came on as a half-time substitute, almost gave the hosts the lead with a 50th-minute volley from outside the area but Ryan Clarke pushed it over.

The U's keeper also denied Dean Parrett by pushing his 21st-minute free-kick wide of the bottom corner despite an awkward bounce.

Moments earlier Oxford striker Hoban hit the side netting with a 20-yard effort, but the game only really burst into life after half-time.
