Burton Albion FC 1 - 0 Bury: Bury go for a Burton

Posted Sunday, February 01, 2015 by PA

Burton moved up to second in the table after a 1-0 win at home to promotion rivals Bury.

A second-half goal by full-back Phil Edwards separated the sides as Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink's men notched their six straight win at the Pirelli Stadium since the Dutchman's succeeded Gary Rowett as manager.

Burton might have been in front inside two minutes but Jacob Blyth could only find the side-netting with a fizzing volley.

Bury had to soak up more pressure before carving out a chance that Tom Soares drove straight at Jon McLaughlin.

The Burton keeper's opposite number, Nick Pope, showed good reflexes to keep out a Lucas Akins shot in the 27th minute of what proved a largely uneventful opening half.

Pope did even better in the 52nd minute, getting a hand to Adam McGurk's deflected shot.

But his efforts proved in vain as Burton made the breakthrough in the 62nd minute when Edwards struck at the far post after a McGurk free-kick had skidded through the six-yard box.

McLaughlin's superb reaction save denied Daniel Nardiello a late equaliser.
