Man United are closing in on £20million-rated Southampton right-back Nathaniel Clyne.
RED HOT: Manchester United want Nathaniel Clyne
United boss Louis van Gaal has identified that position as a priority and Clyne is emerging as the top target.
A scouting delegation from United assessed Clyne, 23, in the Saints' 2-1 win at Newcastle last weekend.
United have already signed one full back from Southampton – Luke Shaw for £28m last summer.
And Clyne, who made his England debut this season, could be the next.
He has also been on Liverpool's wanted list.
United have also been linked with Everton's Seamus Coleman, who was the top target when David Moyes was in charge at Old Trafford.
West Brom, meanwhile, have emerged as favourites to sign United vice-captain Darren Fletcher.
West Ham and Valencia are also chasing midfielder Fletcher, 30, but joining the Baggies would mean the Scotland international wouldn't have to uproot his family from their south Cheshire home.
Fletcher, out of contract in the summer, could commute to Albion's training complex in little over an hour.
Baggies boss Tony Pulis is also eyeing QPR winger Matt Phillips, 23, in a £3 million deal.
