Notts County 1 : 2 Peterborough United - Relief for Posh boss
Posted Sunday, January 25, 2015 by PA
Peterborough relieved some of the pressure on boss Darren Ferguson after they secured a 2-1 win at Notts County thanks to goals from Marcus Maddison and Christian Burgess.
Posh arrived at Meadow Lane having just taken five points from the last 36 on offer which had left Ferguson's position as manager under threat.
But the Scot, banished to the stands for two games after admitting a charge of improper conduct following a clash with the referee at Colchester, saw his side take the lead through Maddison's deflected strike.
Posh lost their grip on the game midway through the first half as County, inspired by Balint Bajner, equalised before the break when Garry Thompson rattled in a superb half-volley.
But the half-time whistle came at the wrong time for the hosts, who failed to keep that momentum going after the restart.
And they were punished in the 62nd minute when Burgess headed in Joe Newell's corner.
County refused to give up hope of an equaliser and it required a terrific save from Scott Loach to deny Will Hayhurst his first goal for the club.
