Port Vale 2 : 1 Peterborough United - Posh falter again
Posted Sunday, January 18, 2015 by PA
Ben Williamson's ninth goal of the season earned Port Vale a 2-1 victory over Peterborough who have now won only one of their last 10 games in all competitions.
The early stages were uneventful and scrappy before the visitors took the lead with their first effort on goal in the 21st minute.
Marcus Maddison beat Frederic Veseli to cross low from the left and Conor Washington struck a left-foot shot from 12 yards which crept low inside Chris Neal's left-hand post.
Washington was foiled by Neal in a one-on-one shortly afterwards and Vale capitalised by equalising in the 32nd minute.
Adam Yates' right-wing cross was headed down by Louis Dodds and Chris Birchall forced a low right-foot shot inside Scott Loach's left-hand post from three yards.
Maddison should have restored Peterborough's advantage when he burst clear shortly afterwards with Neal again rescuing Vale with a fine reaction save.
But Vale went ahead after an awful piece of defending by Christian Burgess two minutes after the interval.
The centre-back's header never looked like reaching Loach and Williamson nipped in to place hist shot past the onrushing keeper from 14 yards.
