Colchester United vs Walsall preview - Gilbey set for Colchester comeback
Posted Friday, January 16, 2015 by PA
Colchester defender Alex Gilbey could return to the squad for the home game against Walsall following a lengthy lay-off.
Gilbey sustained an ankle injury in training and has been sidelined for the last six weeks but is expected to be included in the squad.
Alex Wynter, who joined last week on loan from Crystal Palace, is hoping to make his home debut for the U's at left-back following his first appearance for the club in last Saturday's 2-0 win at Peterborough.
Forward Gavin Massey is likely to recover from the effects of illness to return to contention, but Ben Gordon (ankle) is still doubtful, while Magnus Okuonghae (Achilles) and winger Drey Wright (knee) remain long-term absentees.
Walsall are still without midfielder Sam Mantom who remains sidelined with his long-term knee injury.
He may need surgery and will see a surgeon on Friday after making just four appearances this term.
Mantom is the only absentee but boss Dean Smith could be tempted to make changes to his backline after a 4-1 defeat to Scunthorpe last week.
Ben Purkiss and Mal Benning stand by to slot into a defence which has conceded 10 goals in the last four league games.
