Neymar gets hit in ankle, winds up with Curt Schilling-esque bloody sock

Blood appears on the sock of Barcelona’s Brazilian forward Neymar during the match FC Barcelona vs Club Atletico de Madrid at the Camp Nou stadium.
In soccer, you often see a player head into the opposing penalty area and take a dramatic tumble at the first moment a defender draws near, then writhe on the ground in apparent agony, looking to draw a free kick. But when Neymar went airborne before hitting the turf against Atletico Madrid on Sunday, he had been legitimately nailed on his right ankle.
In case there were any doubters, Neymar had the evidence: a bloody sock.
Look familiar? Curt Schilling made the “bloody sock” look famous during the 2004 ALCS.

Here is Sunday’s sequence:
Amazingly, Atletico defender Jose Gimenez was not given a card for his tackle. Neymar was taken off the field for a few minutes and was none too happy about the tactics of Gimenez.

However, Neymar had the last laugh. He had already tallied the game’s first goal, and his Barcelona side would go on to beat its La Liga rival, 3-1.
