Peterborough United 0 - 2 Colchester United : U's pile on misery for Posh
Posted Sunday, January 11, 2015 by PA
Colchester breathed life into their League One relegation battle with a vital 2-0 victory to pile more pressure on under-fire Peterborough chief Darren Ferguson.
Top-scorer Freddie Sears bagged his 14th goal of the season when converting Sean Clohessy's fine delivery from the right nine minutes into the second half and loan ace Elliott Hewitt clinched victory late on with a classy first career goal from 20 yards.
Those strikes were enough to earn the U's a second win in 10 league games while free-falling Peterborough were booed off after their own pitiful run extended to one win in the last 11 league matches.
The hosts dominated much of the contest but failed to find the net for a fourth successive home match.
Joe Newell fluffed their best chance early on after Erhun Oztumer's shot had been saved. Luke James failed to get a clean connection on the clearest opportunity of the second period before substitute Nathaniel Mendez-Laing saw a blast bravely blocked by Hewitt.
