Eddie Howe rules himself out of the running for Newcastle job

Eddie Howe has no interest in succeeding Alan Pardew as manager of Newcastle United.

The Magpies are currently without a permanent boss following Pardew's exit to Crystal Palace.

Caretaker John Carver has admitted he is keen on the full-time job, but Bournemouth boss Howe is reportedly high on the club's list of potential candidates.

At 37, Howe is one of England's most promising young managers, having guided his side to the top of the Championship.

And although the young coach admits to being flattered by reports linking him with the vacancy at St James' Park, he insists he is not interested in leaving his current post for any other job.

"It's flattering," Howe said. "I am not going to say that you don't want to be linked with jobs because I think if you are not linked with jobs you are not winning games - so I will take that for winning games."

"But I have no interest in any other jobs bar this one. I don't listen to speculation or what the media say, it is very much about the day-to-day running of this football club. I love doing the job here and I am focussed on our next game on Saturday."

Howe played for the South Coast side during two permanent spells and a loan and he is currently enjoying his second time round as manager.

Instead of taking over at tenth placed Newcastle, Howe wants to guide the club he joined as a schoolboy into the Premier League this season.

"The overall aim is to get there," Howe said about the Cherries' top-flight aspirations."

"I have never set targets, I have never said we are going to achieve anything, you just have to prove it."

"We are still in the middle of a busy period of games and we will see where that leads us."

"All I will say is that we will work incredibly hard and look to improve on every aspect so we can get there but it is a long season."
