STEVEN GERRARD is set to confirm his move to LA Galaxy in the next 24 hours.

But the Liverpool skipper last night revealed he would have signed a new deal at Anfield had one been offered last summer.

With no new contract on the table, the 34-year-old has opted to leave Merseyside at the end of the season and is heading to America to play in the MLS.

Gerrard is believed to be signing an 18-month deal with the California club and the move will be rubber-stamped in the next couple of days.

MOVE: Steven Gerrard will move to LA Galaxy next season

He confirmed he is leaving because he did not want to be a squad player at the club, a role that became clear this season as Kop boss Brendan Rodgers managed his games.

Gerrard said: "Yes, if a contract had been put in front of me in pre-season I would have signed it.

"I'd just retired from England to concentrate all my efforts on Liverpool. I didn't want my club games to be tailored.

"My injury record had been fantastic for the past two and a half years and I had a great season from a personal point of view last season.

"It's all ifs, buts and hindsight now. That period between the summer and the end of November gave me thinking time.

"There's no blame and I'm not angry about it. There are other people in the squad and the club had other things to worry about."

The move to America will open up the door to a possible loan move back to Anfield in the future during the MLS off-season.

The Kop star also revealed he has turned down moves to Premier League clubs to make the move Stateside.

He added: "I had a lot of offers - domestically, from Europe, Asia and America.

"When I decided the time was right to leave Liverpool, I knew straightaway I wouldn't ever sign for another domestic club or anyone in Europe."

Gerrard will team up with former Liverpool team-mate Robbie Keane who has spent the last five years with LA Galaxy.

Meanwhile, Raheem Sterling is expected to return for Saturday's clash with Sunderland after a short break in Jamaica.

Crystal Palace boss Alan Pardew is keen on Kop striker Rickie Lambert, but Liverpool are not interested in a letting the ex-Southampton man leave.
