SERGIO AGUERO has returned to training following a knee ligament injury.

The Manchester City striker, 26, who has scored 19 goals in all competitions this season, has not played since the start of December when he limped off against Everton.

"I wanted you to know I've already started field work. Slowly but surely I'll be back at the right moment," said Aguero on Twitter. "Thanks for the wishes!"

Aguero is unlikely to feature for joint-leaders City against Everton at Goodison Park on Saturday but could make his return against Arsenal at the Etihad Stadium on January 18.

City have just lost midfielder Yaya Toure for the next five weeks after he joined the Ivory Coast squad for the Africa Cup of Nations

Depending on their progress, Toure could be missing for the six matches - four in the Premier League, including a home clash with Arsenal and the showdown with title rivals Chelsea, plus a fourth-round tie in the FA Cup.

But team-mate James Milner points to the way City have made light of the lengthy injury-enforced absences of other star players like Aguero, Edin Dzeko, David Silva and Vincent Kompany this season to underline they will not allow Toure's departure to affect their hunt for honours.

City are unbeaten in their last 13 games in all competitions, a run which has seen them slash back an eight-point deficit to join Chelsea at the top of the Premier League, reach the knockout stages of the Champions League and move into the fourth round of the FA Cup.

And of their last 24 goals, 21 have been scored by midfielders and defenders, with the versatile Milner chipping in with a birthday double against Sheffield Wednesday in the Cup on Sunday.

Milner said: "Yaya is obviously going to be a big miss because of what he has done at the club.

"He is a big player for us but we have shown, with the injuries we have had and the players that are out, we can deal with that with the squad we have."
