Exeter City 1 - 2 Accrington Stanley - Last-gasp Aldred lifts Stanley

Posted Sunday, January 04, 2015 by PA

Tom Aldred struck two minutes into stoppage time to earn Accrington a 2-1 win at Exeter.

Aldred reacted quickest after Exeter goalkeeper James Hamon had made a superb save to shoot home with a fierce drive from 12 yards.

Exeter were playing their first game since the club record B#1.75million sale of midfield starlet Matt Grimes and missed his creativity.

Exeter dominated the first half, although Accrington had their chances. Lee Molyneux was denied by a superb Hamon save and Nicky Hunt skied high, while Ryan Harley missed the home side's best chance when he scooped a shot over the crossbar.

Harley was foiled by Accrington keeper Luke Simpson, but Exeter broke the deadlock 10 minutes before the break when Harley crossed with the outside of his foot and Nichols nipped in at the near post for his ninth goal of the season.

After the break Accrington were the better side and deservedly drew level in the 67th minute when Shay McCartan stopped to head in Molyneux's cross and they were further rewarded for their efforts in time added on when Aldred struck the winner.
