Wycombe returned to the top of League Two, as they saw off 10-man Hartlepool 1-0 thanks to a first-half strike from Fred Onyedinma.

The Chairboys completed a first double of the season while Hartlepool are now 10 points from safety at the foot of League Two.

Millwall loanee Onyedinma scored the only goal in the 37th minute although the visitors did threaten late on with Dan Jones heading against the post.

Onyedinma's first chance came after 12 minutes, but he lost his footing as he shaped to shoot.

The winner came from a swift counter-attack. Pools' right back Michael Duckworth lost the ball in the home penalty area, but the Chairboys broke and when Onyedinma collected the ball on the right side of the box, he beat goalkeeper Scott Flinders at his near post.

The Chairboys were always a threat, and went close through Peter Murphy, Aaron Pierre and Alfie Mawson.

But Pools threatened to level with three minutes to go, defender Jones heading against a post, seconds before substitute Lewis Hawkins was red carded.
