Port Vale vs Gillingham preview - Same again for Vale

Posted Friday, January 02, 2015 by PA

Port Vale have no new problems as they prepare to host managerless Gillingham.

Vale boss Rob Page must decided whether to name an unchanged team for the third game in a row, or tinker with one or two things following the defeat at Swindon.

Chris Robertson, Chris Birchall, Chris Lines, Colin Daniel and Byron Moore will hope to come into Page's thinking, while French striker Achille Campion this week signed for the club on a permanent deal. However, it is not yet clear whether his international clearance will come through in time for him to feature on Saturday.

Tom Pope remains out with a knee ligament injury but it is hoped the striker will return to first-team contention in the coming weeks.

Andy Hessenthaler is back in charge of Gillingham following Peter Taylor's sacking.

The caretaker boss, who has had two previous spells in charge of the Gills, has doubts over captain Doug Loft and fellow midfielder Bradley Dack.

Loft missed Sunday's 3-1 defeat by Bristol City with a knee injury and Dack sat out due to a hamstring problem.

Right-back Matt Fish could be added to the squad after returning from a loan spell at Portsmouth.
