Saido Berahino has not been a regular starter for West Brom in recent weeks
West Brom have placed a post on the club’s Twitter feed rubbishing the rumour that exciting young forward Saido Berahino is set for a move to Liverpool when the transfer window opens.
Berahino, 21, began the season superbly, scoring seven goals in West Brom’s first nine games and earning a place in the England squad.
However, he only started one of sacked manager Alan Irvine’s final five games, prompting suggestions he was set to be sold.
Spurs have been linked with the striker and it was then reported in the last couple of days that Liverpool had moved into pole position to sign him for around £23m.
Tottenham have ruled out a move for the player while Albion themselves have attempted to halt the Liverpool speculation.
The club wrote on Twitter on Tuesday afternoon: “OK, time to clear a few things up.
"One final time, this Berahino to @LFC story for £23m is and always has been an entire fabrication."
The Baggies also took the opportunity to pay tribute to Irvine, who was sacked as head coach on Monday everning after leading night after leading the side to just four wins from their first 19 Premier League games this season.
A second Twitter post read: “A sombre day for staff at The Hawthorns because we have said farewell to a man of great class and dignity. #bestwishesAlan”
