Southend United 0 - 0 Dagenham and Redbridge - Shrimpers held at home again

Southend played out their second successive goalless draw at Roots Hall as they were held to a 0-0 draw by Dagenham.

The Shrimpers' chances of finding a winner took a blow with 21 minutes left as defender Cian Bolger was sent off for violent conduct, leaving Phil Brown's side forced to settle for a share of the spoils once more.

Dagenham thought they had taken the lead in the ninth minute when Southend defender John White put the ball in to his own net but the effort was ruled out due to Ashley Hemmings being in an offside position.

After the break, Southend were on top with Barry Corr, Jack Payne and Shaq Coulthirst all being denied by the in-form Dagenham goalkeeper Mark Cousins.

Dagenham's Joss Labadie then saw a close-range shot disallowed for offside.

But the Shrimpers' hopes of all three points were hit when Bolger was sent off for the second time this season.

The Irishman clattered in to Cousins when attempting to reach a corner and then clashed with Labadie in the fracas that followed.
